Mini Circular Saw
A mini circular saw is one of the coolest new tools that you can own. Forget big and heavy saws! Unless we are working on a job site or building a house, most of us just need something that we can use around the house for small projects. Mini circular saws are the perfect cutting tool for smaller DIY projects for several reasons.
They are great for cutting plywood, drywall, carpet, fabric, vinyl siding, sheetrock, shingles, wooden dowels...basically anything! You could even take one out to the garden to trim some branches or bushes.
The main advantage to them is that they are small! These saws have a small 3" cutting blade instead of a full size 7.5" blade. This allows for minimal housing which results in a lightweight and portable tool.
These portable circular saws have ergonomic soft hand grips and are a pleasure to use. On some models the hand grips are adjustable to different angles. This is great for working in tight spaces or corners.
Another advantage of a mini circular saw is that they come with portable storage cases similar to drills and rotary tools. Most of these cases will also have a spot for you to store extra blades. Very convenient.
Full size handheld saws on the other hand, can be a real pain. They take up a ton of space and are extremely awkward to store. They're basically a heavy, roundish lump of metal with a cord. They take up a lot of room on a shelf and you can't put anything on top of them.
Even though mini circular saws are small, they still pack some pretty cool added features. The Craftsman model for example, has a led light and a laser cutting guide. The light is perfect for doing work indoors such as in a garage or basement where the light may be slightly dim. The laser cutting guide projects a red laser beam across your cutting surface. Very handy for making sure that your cuts are straight.
You can also buy a mini circular saw from brands such as Skil and Makita. They are all very similar, but some models do have features that others don't. Some models are corded, while others are cordless and work off of rechargeable batteries. No matter which saw you choose, they are all a great buy and are actually fun to use around the house. You'll want to start cutting up anything you can!
